Current Designs - Karla LV in Kevlar

Built for the surf zone and refined by Scandinavian design sensibility, the Karla LV is a nimble, responsive sea kayak that rewards paddlers who want to push their skills in dynamic water.

This is the third collaboration between Current Designs and Danish designer Jesper Kromann-Andersen, and it shows. The Karla is slightly shorter and narrower than its sibling the Sisu, with extra volume built into the bow to resist pearling when you're dropping into steeper waves. The hard chine hull delivers crisp edging and confident secondary stability, while the shallow-V bottom keeps tracking sharp and the ride lively. This is a surf kayak that actually wants to play.

The Kevlar (Aramid) layup brings the weight down to 48 lbs, which makes a real difference at the end of a long day on the water, or when you're loading onto your car alone. The keyhole cockpit gives you solid thigh contact and easy entry and exit, and the three-hatch layout offers plenty of storage for day trips or overnight coastal touring. A retractable skeg helps you manage tracking in crosswinds and following seas.

Equally at home on the lakes and coastlines of Canada's east and west coasts, the Karla LV earns its place as a serious performance touring kayak for intermediate to expert paddlers.
